TATA Award:

Tamilnadu has been selected as a best State in the country for Reproductive Health and Population Programme during the year 2000 for TATA Memorial Award worth of Rs. 10 lakhs and a beautiful designed Rolling Trophy by the Population Foundation of India. Similarly, Chennai District has been selected as the best District in the country during the year 2000 for TATA Memorial Award worth   of Rs. 2 lakhs and a beautiful designed Rolling Trophy. The award has bwwn given to the State based on the track record in terms of the decline in Infant Mortality, Fertility, Improved life expectancy at birth, improved literacy especially female, school enrolment and percentage of expenditure on Education, Health and Family Welfare, Sanitation and Nutrition.

Higher order Births ( HOB ):

It is estimated that 24.2% of total Births are Higher Order Births i.e., deliveries with more than 2 children. 20 out of 30 Districts have higher order births above the State average of 24.2%.

Government in Go Ms.No.334 H & FW Dept dt 15-9-2000, have issued orders to award gold medal to the field Health Staff involved in the FWP, Panchayat Presidents, District Collectors and Commissioners of Corporation etc., who achieve 'nil'  HOB / maximum reduction in HOB for the year 2001 ( Jan - Dec ).
