1. Compensation: Sterilization is free for all acceptors. During hospitalization for delivery followed by sterilization, diet, medicine and transport are also free. In addition, female / male acceptor for sterilization are paid Rs.200/- and Rs.175/- respectively as compensation. 2. Other benefits: For undergoing sterilization, government servant and their spouse are eligible for the grant of leave as follows:

Insurance Scheme for mothers undergoing sterilization: Under the scheme, all mothers who undergo sterilization in government hospitals, local body institutions, voluntary organizations and approved nursing homes are insured at government cost. In case of death of sterilized mother in the hospital within 30 days, a compensation of Rs.2 lakhs to the children and for the death in the home within 30 days Rs.25000/- are paid through the Insurance Company. Government on its part also pays a sum of Rs.25000/- to the family of the deceased. This scheme is being implemented since 1-2-2001. As per G.O. (Ms) No.79 H (R1) Dept.dt.21-05-2002, Government of Tamilnadu have issued orders for the continuance of the scheme up to 30-04-2003. Family Welfare Programme aims to improve the standard of living by reducing the growth of population. It is aimed to reduce birth rate 15 per 1000 population by 2005 from the current level of 19.2 per 1000 population (2000-SRS). Family Welfare Programme also helps infertile couple to have a child by giving proper counseling and treatment. As per G.O.Ms.No.415 dt.24.07.1998 a sum of Rs.5000/- is being paid by the Government as compensation to the Family Welfare acceptors for the reported failure cases who conceived after Family Welfare operation on or after 24.07.1998. |
