Diagnostic Department has 5 Subdivisions

Media Section

  • Diagnostic Lab is a level 3 Lab identified under IDSP of Government of India.

  • VVIP food samples and food poisoning samples from noon meal centres are screened for the presence of food borne pathogens in the food lab.

  • Isolation of Vibrio cholerae from suspected diarrhoeal cases.

  • Processing clinical samples from Government Hospitals and Private labs.

  • Strict adherance to quality control norms both in processing and manufacturing.

  • Participation in External quality Assessment scheme conducted by Sankaranethralaya, Chennai every year.

  • Protection of the staff by appropriate personal protective Equipments and Hepatitis-B Vaccine.

  • Maintenance of animal house for raising antisera and toxicity testing according to CPCSEA guidelines.

??? Media Section Activies
  • Preparation of media in bulk quantities catering to the needs of various departments of King Institute (Basal media, Selective Media, Enriched Media, etc.,)

  • Preparation of Media for processing of VVIP food samples.

  • Preparation of media for antigen preparation

  • Preparation of Alkaline buffer salt solution for transport of clinical specimen (for isolation of Vibrio cholerae)

  • Decontamination of contaminated glassware followed by washing & Sterilisation

  • Preparation of media for project students

  • Students from various Institutes visit the department

Supply :
?????????Alkaline buffer salt solution is supplied to different PHC’s & Government Hospitals on receiving requisition.

  • Short term project works (3 months) are undertaken for UG & PG students of Microbiology and Bio Technology from different Institutions. Training for MD PG Students of Microbiology from Government Medical Colleges every year. Visits of students from Paramedical Institutions are permitted to know the functioning of our Institute.
  • Our Department in collaboration with SRM University conducted a 2 day State level CME cum workshop on ‘Microbiological quality and safety of food’ on October 22 & 23 last year in which technical experts, faculties and students from professional Colleges & Catering Institutions participated

Newer Activities.

  • A Molecular lab is being established for better isolation and rapid reporting of food borne pathogens. An exclusive food lab to be established for screening of packed food items for food borne pathogens.
  • Pilot study for manufacture and utilization of commercially important enzymes
