The COE, southern region was? commissioned in the year 1989 by the Government of India in association with Government of Tamil Nadu. This COE caters to Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala & Pondicherry. The COE has conducted workshops on Quality assurance? in voluntary contraception and microsurgical recanalisation techniques.

This centre is started to help? those men and women who have undergone voluntary permanent contraception., and who want to have children through recanalisation? procedures due to reasons like? 1.death of one or more children? 2.desire for one more child if the number of children is less than two? 3. Remarriage after divorce.? 4. Death of the spouse.? The age criteria for males is <65 yrs? and for females it is <40 yrs.

After initial counseling and ascertaining the need for recanalisation the patients are subjected to lab investigations and diagnostic lapraoscopy and then are scheduled for Recanalisation procedures? which are hitech procedures using operating microscope and microsutures and microinstruments.

Apart from the male and female recanalisation techniques? after sterilisation procedures this centre also caters to childless couples with problems like bilateral tubal block ,endometriosis, fibroids etc by doing procedures like tuboplasties, conservative surgery for endometriosis, adhesiolysis and myomectomy.

From 1989 to till date about 670 recanalisations have been performed and many couples have benefited giving a success rate of about 63%...???
