DRUGS CONTROL ADMINISTRATION

??????????? The Director of Drugs Control is the Head of Department and he is the Controlling and Licensing Authority for the Drugs Manufacturing Units in Tamilnadu.? He is assisted by One Joint Director, Three Deputy Directors? and One Assistant Director (Administration) in the Directorate, in matters relating to General Administration, Monitoring the activities of enforcement wing, issue of Licences to Drugs and Cosmetics Manufacturing Units in Tamilnadu.? There is a Legal-cum-Intelligence Wing to process legal matters and for taking up special investigations.? It is headed by a Deputy Director of Drugs Control who is assisted by a Legal Adviser.

The State has been divided into 13 Zones and each zone is headed by an Assistant Director of Drugs Control who is the Licensing Authority for the Grant and Renewal of Sales Licences in their Zones.? A Mobile Squad at Madurai headed by an Assistant Director of Drugs Control is functioning for attending to the complaints relating to Spurious Drugs.? A Drugs Testing laboratory is functioning at Chennai for testing the samples of Drugs and Cosmetics drawn by Drugs Inspectors.

Surprise inspections, raids were conducted by the? Drugs Inspectors, Intelligence Wing alongwith area Drugs Inspectors at Tiruvannamalai, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mettupalayam,? and Thiruvallur.?

?

During these raids, heavy stocks of OXYTOCIN INJECTIONS worth about Rs.60,000/-? were seized from cattle feed dealers who were dealing in OXYTOCIN INJECTION without valid drug licences, and prosecution launched against them.? A case ended in conviction. The accused was convicted with ITRC and fine by Hon'ble Ivth MM Court, Saidapet.

??????????? During surprise inspections, retail Chemists dealing in PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS like FORTWIN INJ., CALMPOSE INJECTIONS, ALPRAZOLAM TABLETS were found selling the same in the absence of Prescriptions and sale bill were noticed and legal action initiated against them.

?

??????????? In another surprise inspection a manufacturing unit has been ordered to stop production of medicines as they do not follow the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940.

?

??????????? In yet another inspection persons dealing in SURGICAL items found manufacturing a SPURIOUS BANDAGE? was identified and legal action initiated.

?

??????????? A retail chemist who was dealing in Spurious Drug AGUMENTIN 625 Mg., was detected during raid conducted and legal action is underway against the dealer.
