Major thrust areas in implementation of Family Welfare Programme:

???????????

a)????? Out of 11.5 lakh births occurring in the State every year, 18.9 % of the births are third or higher order births ( i.e.2.17 lakhs). To reach the goals fixed for 2007, these higher order births have to be reduced in a phased manner.

b)????? The IMR is 44 per 1000 live births. Among the infant deaths, nearly 70% are neo–natal deaths. If these neo–natal deaths are reduced, then our aim of reducing IMR to 30 per 1000 live births by 2007 will be achieved.

c)????? The involvement of elected panchayats, self help groups (SHGs), women’s associations and the non-government organizations (NGOs) will be enlisted to ensure the provision of family welfare services to the eligible couples.

d)????? Regarding No Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) training, 2 master trainers and 1 district trainer are available in Tamil Nadu. Further, 68 trained doctors on NSV are also available in the State. To increase the male participation in family welfare programme, 12 NSV camps have been organized.

e)????? The district collectors have been requested to monitor the family welfare programme.
