Can't you fill these seats for this year? Health and Family Welfare Department G.O.Ms.No:320 Dated:30.11.2001 1. From the Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare lr.No. U. 12012/15/97-Medical Education(P) dated 7.4.99. 2. From the Director of Medical Education lr.No.59948/MEII/1/2001 dated 12.10.2001 and 1.11.2001. Order: At present 11 Government Medical Colleges are run by this Government and one Medical College is run by institute of Road Transport. Totally 1295 students are admitted in these 12 Medical Colleges. For providing better Medical Education and the latest technology in Medical Sector to the students, latest equipments are provided in the Hospitals attached to the Medical Colleges at a high cost. Further opening of new Medical Colleges at Vellore and Kanniyakumari have been announced and funding for these Institutions have to be provided. In order to meet the huge expenditure involved in providing latest Medical Technology available in Medical Colleges and Teaching Hospitals and to start announced new colleges, it has been decided to raise resources. By utilising the infrastructure facilities available in the five Government Medical Colleges, the Government have decided to increase the number of seats by 315 seats, to reserve 150 seats for NRI students towards payment and to allot the balance 165 seats to the general pool. From the amount thus raised from the NRI students a percentage will be given to the Hospital Development Research and Educational Society to be set up in each Medical College. This amount will be utilised by the said Society for improving the Medical services and upgradation of the Research and Teaching standards in the Medical Colleges. Ultimately, this step will be very beneficial to the patients in getting better treatment in the Hospitals. The students will also be exposed to latest equipment, technology and teaching aids. 2.The Government accordingly issue the following orders:- (i) The number of MBBS seats in five Medical Colleges shall be increased to 315 as indicated in the Annexure to this order and 150 seats will be added to general pool.
