Since its inception, the Corporation has organized an efficient and centralized procurement and distribution system for drugs and medicines.? It has introduced the concept of essential drugs propagated by WHO keeping in view WHO's Model list of essential drugs.? TNMSC now has 268 items of drugs and medicines. TNMSC has also procuring and supply of 113 of Sutures and 57 surgical. The Corporation follows WHO's recommendation for the use of the international non-priority name (INN) commonly known as generic name for each drug.? In order to ensure the procurement of quality drugs TNMSC is following open tender system confirming to the Transparency in Tender Act 1998. Open tender system is followed and purchases are effected only form the manufacturers /direct importers and not through agents or distributors with good manufacturing Practice (GMP) certificate and minimum three market standing. To ensure continuous and uninterrupted supply of drugs & medicines, a minimum? turnover of Rs.35/- lakhs is fixed become eligible? to participate in the tender. With? the dual? objectives of maintaining quality and preventing wastages and pilferages, all tablets and capsules are procured with only strip packing, as against the earlier practice of bulk packing which requires manual handling at the time of distribution.? Both inner and outer packages of all items as well as the tablets and capsules are required to bear the logo of TNMSC with a marking to show that the drugs are manufactured only for State Govt. supply and Not for Sale.? TNMSC also procuring and supplying 102 items of Veterinary drugs. Institutions Served by TNMSC
