Established as per G.O. 1048/ME/ dt. 23.7.93, the School of Laboratory Technology, King Institute of Preventive Medicine & Research, Guindy, Chennai-32 imparts training for Diploma in Medical Laboratory for students who have completed their Higher Secondary with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Zoology, with annual intake of 50 students. Period of study - 2 years. Mode of Admission through Single Window System by Board of Para Medical Education, KIPM&R Guindy, Chennai-32.

- Microbiology, Pathology & Biochemistry Theory classes are taken by all Teaching Faculties in concerned subjects.
- Conducting Seminars frequently in each subject.
- Hands on training given for all students.
- Library Facilities with latest edition of books are available for students.
- Conducting Test for Internal Assessment once in 15 days in each subject.
- Practical schedule are conducted under supervision of concerned medical officers in SLT Department and overall supervised by Director.
- Extracurricular Activities:

- Section Postings: All students are sent to Diagnostic dept, Media section, ASVS, Biological Control & Virology Department.
- Students are exposed to get trained in Blood bank, Histopathology, Clinical Pathology., Serology, Rheumatology, Biochemistry, Pathology & Microbiology Department in Medical Colleges.
- Model Theory and Practical Examination is conducted for every batch before the Final Exam.
- Conducting DMLT Theory and Practical Examination after completion of the course.
