??????????????? Veterinary Section of King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Guindy, is a CPCSEA reference unit which houses horses and mules. 200 number of horses and mules can be housed and maintained in the section.

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

???????????Veterinary Section is (CPCSEA) registered unit for maintaining Horses and mules for the production of Anti Snake venom (Anti snake venom serum). The routine duties performed in the section are,

• Horses and mules are maintained for Anti Snake Venom Serum production

• Overall cleaning and maintenance of stable and paddock by workers

• Routine grooming and feeding of horses and mules by syces

• Checking the quality of feed and washing of green grass and Lucerne with KMn 04 before feeding for animals, monitored by Overseer

• Regular exercises given to animals

• Routine venom injections given to animals and plasmapheresis done for Anti snake venom serum production

• Treatment of sick animals and surgical dressing of wounds by veterinarians.

• Rehabilitation given to sick horses according to CPCSEA norms

FUTURE PROPOSALS :

???1.?Mechanisation of the section needed for better maintenance.

???2.?Post Mortem facilities to be made available is the department itself utilizing the services of the veterinarians available.
